Founding & Stewardship
JL Capital Group was established following the successful build and exit of a scaled operating business and was designed from inception as a long-term investment and stewardship platform.
The firm’s origins trace back to Joseph Land’s leadership of The Joseph Land Group, Inc., a temperature-controlled logistics platform built from the ground up into a nationally scaled enterprise. Under his direction, the business expanded to more than $179 million in annual revenue, operated a fleet of over 1,500 trucks across 23 locations, and employed more than 2,000 people. Prior to its successful exit in 1994, the company was ranked by PricewaterhouseCoopers as the 8th largest operator in its sector in North America, and among the leading enterprises in South Carolina.
Following that exit, JL Capital Group was formed to apply the same operating discipline, capital judgment, and long-term perspective to partnering with American small and middle-market businesses. Today, the firm operates as a family-office-backed investment and operating platform, working alongside owners and leadership teams at critical stages of growth.
JL Capital’s leadership brings decades of operating and transactional experience, with more than $6 billion in collective transaction exposure across multiple industries. The firm’s approach is defined by durability over speed, governance over opportunism, and execution over financial engineering.
Business is viewed not simply as an asset, but as a responsibility. JL Capital’s work is guided by principles of integrity, stewardship, and disciplined leadership—informing how capital is allocated, how companies are governed, and how long-term value is created for employees, partners, and stakeholders alike.
